Consequences of climate change on food-energy-water systems in arid regions without agricultural adaptation, analyzed using FEWCalc and DSSAT

چکیده
Effects of a changing climate on agricultural system productivity are poorly understood, and likely to be met with as yet undefined adaptations by farmers associated business governmental entities. The continued vitality systems depends economic conditions that support farmers’ livelihoods. Exploring the long-term effects requires modeling engage stakeholders upon whom burden any adaptation will rest. Here, we use new freeware model FEWCalc (Food-Energy-Water Calculator) project farm incomes based climate, crop selection, irrigation practices, water availability, adding renewable energy production. Thus, addresses United Nations Global Sustainability Goals No Hunger Affordable Clean Energy. future scenario impacts production simulated when current practices continue so no enabled. Decision Support System for Agrotechnology Transfer (DSSAT) added arid-region dynamics is used simulate dynamics. Demonstrations at site in midwest USA 2008–2017 historical data two 2018–2098 RCP scenarios provide an initial quantification increased challenges under change, such reduced yields financial losses. Results show how this finding largely driven increasing temperatures changed distribution precipitation throughout year. Without effective technological advances operational policy changes, simulations rural areas could increasingly depend economically local energy, while from arid regions declines 50% or more.

متن کاملchallenges of agricultural extension systems in adaptation to climate change: the perception of fars agricultural specialists
climate is changing and various scenarios indicate accelerated climate change in the future. if farmers and rural residents’ capacities do not enhance to adapt to the impacts of climate change, the impacts will overwhelm on agriculture and rural communities. extension systems can play an important role in agricultural adaptation to climate change. therefore, the aim of this research was to expl...
متن کاملEffect of management of water consumption on vegetation development in rainwater catchment systems in arid regions
The aim of this research was to study how water use management can increases vegetation cover inrainwater catchment systems. The study was conducted through comparison of two methods of irrigation, i.e. traditional sub-surface drip irrigation and drip irrigation. Three soil samples were taken and analyzed from three locations in north of Sistan from a depth of 50 cm. A furrow was dug with a bas...
متن کاملClimate risk management for water in semi–arid regions
Background: New sources of hydroclimate information based on forecast models and observational data have the potential to greatly improve the management of water resources in semi-arid regions prone to drought. Better management of climate-related risks and opportunities requires both new methods to develop forecasts of drought indicators and river flow, as well as better strategies to incorpor...
متن کاملClimate Change and Food Systems
Food systems contribute 19%–29% of global anthropogenic greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, releasing 9,800–16,900 megatonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO2e) in 2008. Agricultural production, including indirect emissions associated with land-cover change, contributes 80%–86% of total food system emissions, with significant regional variation. The impacts of global climate change on food syste...
